What is a Data Technician?
The main role of a Data Technician is to source, format and present data in a relevant way for analysis using foundational methods.
Data Technicians would typically work as part of a team, under the guidance of a senior colleague or multiple colleagues across the business.
Data Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship
This is a Level 3 Apprenticeship with a typical duration of 18 months.
This programme covers;
- Statistical & Analytical use of Excel.
- Programming in Python and SQL.
- Data Visualisation with Tableau & Power BI.
- Data Modelling & Storytelling.

- EMC Data Science Associate

Entry Requirements
You’ll be an inquisitive learner who enjoys and excels at identifying patterns in any body of data, and wants to start a career in Data Analysis. The strongest candidates will be able to work independently, using their own initiative and a thorough, organised approach whilst communicating with a range of internal and external people.
The apprenticeship process – how to get started
Individual employers will set the selection criteria, but this might include 5 GCSEs and/or A Levels; or other relevant qualifications and experience; or an aptitude test with a focus on functional maths. Level 2 English and Maths will need to be achieved, if not already, prior to taking the end point assessment.
