Caroline – Associate Project Manager @ Sainsbury’s
“The apprenticeship allowed me to gain a qualification in an area I am invested in for my future. Furthermore, it has opened more doors than I had before I started.”
In 2019 I had decided that I wanted to progress my career. Change is something I am passionate about and I felt that the apprenticeship would allow me to gain such skills and improve understanding of project structures within my current industry.
As I was involved in projects, I was able to build my learning around my current responsibilities and apply new skills such as change management, PESTLE, and Responsibility assignment matrixes to various aspects of my work.
I enjoyed the level of support available from Skills Team. My mentor ensured he made time to support any concerns I had, prepared for each meeting so time was utilised, and made himself available outside of these meetings for clarity on areas I was finding more difficult. Furthermore, the monthly sessions I attended on the apprenticeship allowed me to learn new skills, enhance my knowledge, apply the new knowledge to either projects I was involved in, managing, or everyday tasks.
My biggest achievement was completing the programme and I have secured a 12-month Secondment on a large-scale project for the business which is exposing me to Operational and Project Management opportunities. I would definitely recommend an apprenticeship since being someone who didn’t attend University, this has allowed me to gain a qualification in an area I am invested in for my future. Furthermore, it has opened more doors than I had before I started.
